Install an Unofficial Android OS 2.2 to upgrade your Motorola Droid X
Motorola is sending cease and desist orders to websites responsible for distributing the beta version of Android OS 2.2 for the Droid X. The reason being given is that the upgrade contains software that is copyrighted by Motorola, and therefore this company has the right to control how this material is distributed.
The smartphone debuted last month running Android OS 2.1, and an upgrade to the next version is definitely in development. When this is going to be out hasn’t been announced, and unofficial source say it won’t be available until early next month. (more…)

Motorola Milestone In Canada will Getting Android 2.2 Next Year

According to Motorola’s official upgrade timeline, the Milestone will get Froyo in late Q4, but only for Europe and Korea. The Android 2.2 upgrade for Milestone is “under evaluation” for Canada, Latin America, and Mexico.
As expected, other Motorola phones that launched with pre-2.1 versions of Android won’t get Froyo at all, at least for the foreseeable future. Motorola’s Cliq, Cliq XT, and Backflip are waiting for Android 2.1, for which the Motorola Devour was deemed unfit. (more…)

Android or smartphone platform has become the largest U.S.
Android sales beyond the BlackBerry and the iPhone, won the largest share of U.S. smartphone market. In the spring quarter, HTC, Motorola and other manufacturers of small Android total market sales accounted for 34% of the U.S. intelligence machine, enough to squeeze under the RIM’s 32.1% and 21.7% of Apple. HTC’s Droid Incredible, Evo 4G and other sub-models got the biggest cake of 14.4%, LG and other manufacturers share of the smaller.

IDC: Global mobile phone shipments in the second quarter increased 14.5% year on year
U.S. market research firm IDC released a report Thursday by smart phone manufacturers and global enterprises outside the top five handset makers to promote, the second quarter of 2010, the global handset market continued to show growth.
IDC data show that the second quarter of 2010, worldwide mobile phone shipments to 317.5 million, compared with the second quarter of 2009 increased 14.5% 277 200 000. First half of 2010, worldwide mobile phone shipments totaled 620.6 million, compared with the first half of 2009, up 18.5% from 523.5 million.
