How to convert TiVo files to iPad/ iPad Wi-Fi+ 3G on Mac?

According to Apple, iPad gives up to 10 hours of surfing the web on Wi-Fi, watching video, or listening to music. By any means, it is a great portable video player. So why not transfer you TiVo recordings to iPad? No matter where you are, whenever it is, just take out the iPad and enjoy your favorite TV programs or football matches freely! Nice idea, isn’t it? In the following guide I would like to share with you how to get your TiVo recordings ready for iPad (iPad Wi-Fi +3G). In order to enjoy TiVo recordings on iPad, you got to transfer TiVo to your Mac and then convert the TiVo files to iPad compatible formats.

1. Transfer TiVo recordings to Mac (or MacBook)

Once you’ve recorded your favorite shows on your TiVo box, you can transfer them to your Mac with certain software as long as your TiVo box is connected to your home network. Although the TiVo Desktop software for the Mac (supplied by TiVo) does not allow user to transfer TiVo recordings to Mac, there are other freeware can accomplish this task, like the TiVoDecode Manager. Run the app, enter your TiVo’s IP address in the TiVo IP Address box. Next click the Prefs button in the lower-right corner. Fill in the Media Access Key. A list of shows on your TiVo will appear in the Now Playing list. Select the show and click Add Show To Queue. The selected show now appears in the Download Queue list. Click Download Location to select where you want to save it. The app allows you to convert TiVo shows to MPEG-4 video for iPod. Of course you can play these TiVo shows with QuickTime Player. 2. Convert TiVo recordings to to iPad compatible formats.

Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, MacM stereo audio in .avi file format.

Now please refer to the converting procedures below:

Step 1. Input Media Access Key.

Launch Pavtube Video Converter, Click on the “Option” button, switch to TiVo tab, and enter your Media Access Key. Click “OK” to confirm.

You are allowed to adjust codec, aspect ratio, bit rate, frame rate, sample rate and audio channel in the popup window to optimize the output file quality. Following are the recommended settings to get best playback quality.

Step 4: Click “Convert” button to start conversion.

Once finished, you can get the output files for your iPad via clicking on “Open” button effortlessly. Afterwards, connect your iPad to your Mac, and then sync the videos to iPad via iTunes.

How to stream MKV over DLNA?

Most of the time people get no luck when trying to stream a MKV file from NAS to DLNA certified TV or HD media player, but it does work for some guys. Why should this happen? Basically, with DLNA media devices there are certificates given to each product that receives DLNA approval.  The problem is that .mkv is not one of the media options that are categorized because it’s not a sanctioned format (not like WMV, MPEG, etc.) Besides, MKV is a flexible container format which can store just about anything (H.264, DivX, MPEG, any sort of audio, even menus and subtitles) while WMV, MPEG is more or less complete formats so they know what to expect while with MKV’s you really can’t tell without checking the contents itself.

How to Convert AVI to DVD

Question 1: “I  am looking for a program that will encode an AVI file to DVD format, such as  NeroVision Express 2. I have used that exclusively for years but have lately  run into a few Xvid files that just won’t work with Nero. I know there were  some a few years back but can’t remember what they were. Getting old I guess.  Anyone know of any?”

Since more and  more people have the needs of converting AVI files to DVD format, so as to burn  them to DVD discs for playback, this guide will show you how to convert AVI to  DVD format via the help of Pavtube Video Converter, if you have  this requirement just right, please feel free to move on with my post now.

Step 1: Click “Add” button to load AVI files

Step 2: Select DVD format as output format, and set  save path

Click the  drop-down list of “Format” to select “VOB Format” firstly, and then choose a  DVD format according to your geographical region. Here I select “DVD-Video  Format-NTSC (*.vob) for example. Notice that NTSC is a video format used in  North America, Central America, Japan, and parts of South America; PAL is the  video format used in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, most of Asia, and parts  of South America; SECAM is used in Africa, Asia, Pacific Islands, Former USSR,  and Americas.

At the same  time, you can click the folder icon at the end of “Output” to specify where to  locate the output files in DVD format. By the way, if you want to combine  several AVI files into a single file, you can tick the checkbox “Merge into one  file”.

Step 3: Set advanced settings

If you want to  adjust audio and video parameters to optimize the output file quality, you can click  ”Settings” button to do so. All the parameters like codec, aspect ratio, bit  rate, frame rate, etc. on the following interface are changeable, and you can  adjust them according to your own requirements.

Step 4: Start converting AVI to DVD format

As soon as all  the above settings are finished, then you can click “Convert” button to start  converting AVI to DVD format.
