20th Century Fox Bundling Android Digital Movies with Blu-Ray Purchases

20th Century Fox is dipping its downloading toes into the 21st century’s waters, releasing movies on Android in addition to good, old-fashioned Blu-ray. According to the Financial Times, retail discs of X-Men: First Class will direct owners to a website where they can sideload a digital version of the film onto their Android device of choice. Apparently some of the suits over at Fox caught wind of how popular Android tablets are getting, and now see them as complementary, not cannibalistic (remember that industry buzz kill?) Sure, right now you shouldn’t expect any Netflix-sized library of titles, but perhaps we can all agree this is a step in the right download-to-own direction. Residents of the US, UK, Germany, and France will get the first crack at downloading the films. The rest of you can just stream and wait.

Verizon Thunderbolt update fixes random reboots, drops free mobile hotspot support

Is Galaxy S II Headed to Windows Phone 7?
Based on some thin evidence, and enriched with rife speculation, blogs and new sites are saying that Samsung is experimenting with a version of its new, successful Samsung Galaxy S II smartphone that runs Windows Phone 7 instead of Android as its firmware.
The main difficulty is that the Galaxy S II (currently available only outside the United States) doesn’t match the existing Windows Phone hardware specification. First, that spec mandates use of the Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, and a new version of the Galaxy S II is expected to run Samsung’s own CPU: a 1.4 GHz dual-core Exynos chip. Second, it also requires a trio of dedicated buttons on the bottom of the front face: start, search, and back. The current GS II model has a single front-facing button below its 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus display. (more…)
