[Tips]How to Reset the Motorola Droid X

If you’ve decided to sell or gift your Droid X and want to wipe your personal data from the device – or if your Droid X isn’t functioning properly and you want to start fresh – the solution is a Factory Reset.

A Factory Reset (also called a Hard Reset) wipes the memory of a smartphone and returns it to its factory specs.  All data entered, programs installed and settings changed after you first powered on your phone will be lost in a Factory Reset.  The only data that will remain is the OS, pre-installed software from the manufacturer or wireless carrier, and anything stored on the memory card.

To perform a Factory Reset of the Droid X, go to the main screen and press the Menu button below the screen. From the pop-up menu, select Settings, then Privacy as shown below:

Install an Unofficial Android OS 2.2 to upgrade your Motorola Droid X

Motorola is sending cease and desist orders to websites responsible for distributing the beta version of Android OS 2.2 for the Droid X. The reason being given is that the upgrade contains software that is copyrighted by Motorola, and therefore this company has the right to control how this material is distributed.

The smartphone debuted last month running Android OS 2.1, and an upgrade to the next version is definitely in development. When this is going to be out hasn’t been announced, and unofficial source say it won’t be available until early next month. (more…)
